Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running a marathon a month to raise money for Plan International UK. As part of their Youth Advisory Panel for three years, I have seen the incredible work this charity puts in to giving girls the tools they need to achieve anything they want in life.
I am standing with Plan International UK to fight for a world where every child, especially every girl, knows their value. We want the communities they’re growing up in – and the world around them – to value them too. And if a disaster strikes such as an earthquake or even a pandemic, they are there to protect children, keep them learning and help them to recover.
Plan International UK is a global children’s charity. They work with girls and boys growing up in some of the world’s poorest communities, making sure they have access to the education, health care, clean water and future opportunities they need to thrive.
They’re also working to create a just and equal world for girls – including here in the UK. Through their ‘Because I am a Girl’ campaign they’re standing with brave girls everywhere as they take on the issues that matter to them, from child marriage to street harassment and sexual exploitation at work.
Representing and campaigning for this charity has been fun every step of the way- they make young people the centre of their work and it would be such an honour to give something back. I have worked representing Plan International UK in corporate partnerships such as The Body Shop, where I spoke in London to their global partners about the toxic trio surrounding periods: stigma, affordability, and lack of education. Taking part in `The Menstrual Cycle`, I helped to reach out to the public to start conversations about these issues. In addition, I worked on the The Body Shop’s `Dream Big` Christmas campaign last year which encouraged girls to follow their ambitions and raised money for girls in Indonesia and Brazil which went towards leadership projects in those areas, helping to give girls some skills and independence which would help them to reach their goals.
I have also has also played a prominent role in the campaign against street harassment and public sexual harassment within the UK. I have talked about my own experience in newspaper articles, on national radio and TV which has helped stimulate a dialogue around the issue online and resulted in many other young women coming forward to vocalize their experience. It has also resulted in men reaching out and asking what they can do to help combat the problem. I have talked about the problem to both local and national politicians at Party Conferences in order to raise awareness and gather commitment from key decision makers to tackle the problem.
