I took part on the very first London Eye to Eye Walk organised by Moorfields Eye Charity in March 2015 to help raise funds for eye research. I was a member of St George’s Stars team then.
All four of us who participated on that first walk had not done long walk in the past but we embarked on the 14-mile challenge. It was real hard work, but the mutual support and encouragement from one another helped us to finish in five hours. It was exhausting but full of fun. We walked past beautiful spots in London which I never saw before. The positive experience motivated us to join again on the 14-mile walk the following year.
When I moved to Croydon Eye Unit, I decided to do it again with new set of colleagues in March 2018. Croydon Sole Mates team was formed then. We started with 4 miles to see how far each member can walk. The team composed of nine members thoroughly enjoyed the experience but felt that the element of challenge was lacking. We unanimously decided to go on the 14-mile walk the following year - March 2020. The charity walk has multi-faceted benefits. Apart from raising money for eye research, we always had great fun and created bond of friendships even beyond Moorfields family.
Every 15 minutes someone in the UK someone starts to lose their sight.I'll be walking five or 15 miles to fundraise for Moorfields. It'll be no easy challenge! Please support me and give what you can to this cause that is close to my heart. Already, over 2 million people across the country live with impaired vision - with that number set to double over the next 30 years.Moorfields believe that peoples sight matters. That's why they fund life-changing eye research to deepen our understanding of eye disease and help bring new treatments to patients faster than ever before. Its why they invest in innovative education programmes to help train the next generation of eye specialists. And its why they support staff, equipment and new ideas at Moorfields Eye Hospital to help patients across the country access world-class eye care. Ultimately, everything they do aims to make a difference to the lives of people with sight loss.
