Thank you & well done everyone. We have now reached target & it's all down to you.
Well, the marathon is over & I did it. I don't believe I've done anything as painful or tiring in my life, but I finished it & already the pain is being dulled by the accomplishment. My time was 6:18:49. A slow, but successful run. Though I was overtaken by two 75 year olds, a 76 year old & a lighthouse! In my defence, I'd never run before this year & they were all experienced athletes (even the lighthouse).
The crowds (both spectators & fellow runners) and volunteers were amazing. I don't think I could have got round without their words of encouragement., food, drink & medical expertise. Each burrough had it's own bands playing & you could really tell the type of neighbourhood, by the style of music. We saw school choirs/bands, hip hop, rock, alternative, dj's, etc.... It was eclectic & amazing.
The support was astounding. If I ever felt like I was flagging, there was someone who would run alongside me. Thank you to the 2 Welsh ladies who helped me near the end. Thank you to Larry, the medical guy, who helped sort out my cramp by mile 13. Thank you to Jackie, from Glasgow for pacing me the first 8 miles. & to the the countless others. I hope that those I helped too, were able to cross the finish line.
The whole event was definitely worth it. We raised a great amount, for a great cause & you were all with me the whole way. If you want to look at some photos of the marathon, then go to the following link:
In the meantime, you still have a couple of weeks to sponsor me & donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Yorkshire Cancer Research will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please pass this website along to anyone you know! Just because we've reached target, it doesn't mean we have to stop. All donations help this great cause.
Many thanks for your support.
