We campaign to end child poverty in the UK for good.

Story

After recently learning about George Orwell (in year 7)I read about his book, The Road to Wigan written in 1937 about poverty in Britain. It got me thinking how things haven't changed enough in the UK.

"One in five (22 per cent) households in the UK have an income below the poverty line, after their housing costs are taken into account. 31 per cent of children live in households below the poverty line (after housing costs)." Child Poverty Action Group

With the current government child poverty is on the increase and it looks likely to continue doing so. Inspired by people like Marcus Rashford (Although football is one of my weakest subjects at school) i decided to do something.

As part of my studying I visited Wigan Pier and realised in was on the canal route from Leeds to Liverpool and decided to set myself the challenge of cycling the 150 km from Leeds to Wigan in a day for the charity Child Poverty Action Group. Please give to this worthy cause and maybe we can help a few children eat well. I am starting the fundraiser by donating all my pocket money from last month.

Thanks Esther x

We are the trusted voice on child poverty. On average nine children in a classroom of 30 are growing up in poverty. That's 4.3 million children in the UK. Our vision is a society free from child poverty, where all children can enjoy a childhood without financial hardship.
