Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
We did it!! 53.45miles, 18hrs and 34 minutes in the saddle. Thoroughly enjoyable but character building, especially the 6 miles over Rooley moor when we felt like we were being jet washed with hailstone and our waterproofs forgot they were meant to be waterproof!!
5 tired horses and 5 tired and aching ladies, What a team!! I want to say a special thank you to them all for helping me to do this and raise money for the hospice and to our fabulous steeds who never gave up and behaved impecably throughout.
Also a special thank you to our supporters, Simon, Mick and Sue who helped us make it happen by transporting the horses etc and to Rob for minding the dogs and Dave for minding Isaac so we could all go!
For those of you who'd not visited the page before....
My husband Garry Mathieson died in the East Lancs Hospice on 13th January 2005. We were married in the hospice the day before.
During Garry's short stay there I was amazed by the care and kindness shown by the staff who are faced with dealing with such dreadful tasks on a daily basis. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they helped to make our Wedding Day special and Garry's final week as comfortable as possible. I will be forever grateful for their support.
Following Garry's death I bought a foal to keep me occupied, who I named 'Matty' which was Garry's nick name (and Garry didn't quite suit the horse!)
Matty is now now 4 years old (shown in the picture) and I decided it was time that we gave something back to the hospice. As a result on 16th June 2008 'Matty' and I, Sharon O'Neill and 'Silas', Katie Bushell and 'April', Clare Galloway and 'Paddy' and Lynn Piotrowski and 'Red' set out on the Mary Townley loop in aid of the Hospice and in Garry's memory.
Training to get both ourselves and the horses fit and ready for the loop was hard work, but nothing compared to what the staff at the hospice do on a daily basis!
