Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Following some amazing treks including Madagascar, Costa Rica, Everest Base Camp and the Sahara Desert, and some time off due to the Covid Pandemic, the time is right to be setting off again to raise funds for Marie Curie.
The Avenue of Volcanoes trek is a challenging trek at altitude; acclimatisation is essential. The trek follows the dramatic Toachi canyon, flanked by verdant valleys of tropical forest and farmland dotted with indigenous villages. The trek explores this diverse landscape and criss crosses the steep-sided canyon on ancient trading paths rising to the rim of Quilotoa (3870m), a vast volcanic crater known for its vivid turquoise lagoon. Having trekked at altitude before, I know that training is essential and I have embarked on this in earnest to ensure that my fitness levels are at optimum before I head to Ecuador.
My family benefitted from the service of a Marie Curie Nurse when my mum begged us to die at home. This would not have been possible without our “angel” Pauline, who spent two nights with us. The care and compassion she showed to mum and the support she gave to us as a family was beyond words. It is now my life-long mission to give this amazing charity all the support I can to ensure other families can experience the care we had, should they need it.
