We here at Essex Police are taking part in a sponsor cyle ride consisting of 10 miles around Chelmsford on 1st August 2009 to raise money for Child Victims of Crime. This is in conjunction with Dominic Chambers who is a representative of the charity cycling to every police headquarters within England, Wales and Scotland over a period of 23 days. Essex Police Headquarters is his first port of call on the 1st August, therefore, we wish to mark it by doing our own sponsor cycle in support of his pledge. Please sponsor our officers, support staff and Essex county council partners who are taking part to help raise money for this charity.
Child Victims of Crime is the only national police children’s charity and was set up in 1993 following the Warrington bombings. They provide material support to any child up to and including 16 years of age who has been a victim of, or traumatised by any criminal offence committed in the United Kingdom. Only police officers can nominate a child for an award and to date over 4000 children have been granted awards varying from funding for private counselling sessions, holidays and activity breaks, tickets to events, mountain bikes, computers and high street gift vouchers.
