Story
Before you ask, yes we’re terrified. Mariya especially is not a fan of heights! But the fear of walking 170ft down the side of Park Regis Hotel could never even come close to the fear that comes with having an illness that can’t be cured. It’s hard to imagine being in that situation, but tragically for our Management Accountant Caroline, it became a reality when her mum received a terminal cancer diagnosis.
Previously, John Taylor Hospice was just a building at the end of Caroline’s road that cared for people at the end of their lives. That changed fast. The hospice provided Caroline’s mum with invaluable respite care. The day centre where she made crafts and shared her experiences with others in the same situation was a welcome distraction from her illness. Alternative medicines like hypnotherapy and Reiki helped to alleviate her pain and stress. The hospice looked after Caroline’s mum to the end and when she passed away the amazing staff continued to support Caroline and her family through their loss.
That building at the end of the road had become an irreplaceable means of support, counselling, respite and care.
We in the eSpares team couldn’t have more respect for the nurses, staff and volunteers at the hospice. Every single day they make sure every moment matters for over 600 people and their families. Every donation matters too, no matter how small, so please, please help us to reach our fundraising target. With your help, we can support John Taylor Hospice in the incredible work they do.
If you've donated, thank you. It really means the world to us.
Oh and here’s a little more detail about how we’re all feeling...
Kat: “I’m excited to see the view at the top, but I’m more excited for a celebratory drink afterwards!"
Dan: “I only wish I could do it hanging upside down and go
multiple times, although I am up for drinks as well!”
Ben: “I’m planning not to look down. I’ll take a pot of Nutella with me as a distraction.”
Eleanor: “Every time I drive past the Park Regis hotel I get a little bit of panic rising up. No idea what I’ll be like on the day!”
Mariya: “Flippin... I’m gonna swear a lot, that’s all I know. I don’t know whether to have some alcohol or if I need a hug.”
