Story
On Saturday 13th May, Esme in all her 9yr old glory will be attempting to climb her first mountain!!
Along with Mama and Pappy, she'll be taking on the heady heights of Snowdon as part of the Walk for Plunkett campaign, which is raising money to support the work Plunkett does in helping rural communities.
Plunkett is the UK's only charity providing free ongoing expert advice and support to rural communities who are setting up and running businesses that are owned and run democratically by members of the community.
Community-owned businesses play a vitally important role in rural life; while they undoubtedly offer a wealth of benefits around ensuring access to vital facilities and services, they are also addressing a variety of issues the communities face, including isolation and loneliness, technology poverty and employment and training. From giving a young person a chance to gain confidence and skills through work, or providing a meals on wheels service to vulnerable residents, through to bringing technology into the community to make online services more accessible to everyone, community businesses are lifelines to so many and the beating heart of their villages.
In light of the current cost of living crisis, it's estimated that 1 in 5 businesses are vulnerable as a result of the financial pressures they face.
The Walk for Plunkett campaign will be raising money to ensure Plunkett can remain on hand to continue offering free business support to help see community businesses through these difficult months, so they too can continue being lifelines for their own communities.
We appreciate it's a tricky time for everyone at the moment so whatever you can give, thank you.
Wish us luck!
Esme, Gem and Rich
