Story
Most of us have felt the need for some kind of escape in the past two years, but acting on that impulse hasn't been easy. For veterans who face barriers to employment, escape can seem impossible.
Our enthusiastic team of 10 cyclists (of all ages and ability) are planning our own escape of the century to raise vital funds that will help veterans with health conditions find a better way forward in 2022.
On Saturday 20th August, starting at 0800, we will attempt to cycle 100 laps of Richmond Park in just 10 hours! The total distance per rider for 10 laps is approximately 70 miles (or just over 112km). [The event was postponed from Sunday 17th July due to the extreme weather we experienced last month!].
We’ll be taking on our challenge just a stone’s throw away from The Poppy Factory, where the charity first began supporting veterans into employment 100 years ago.
The team - many of whom are connected to The Poppy Factory by virtue of employment, association, residence (on the Poppy Factory Estate) or interest - is led by Jeff Short, The Poppy Factory’s Director of Production and Estate. We may also have the odd celebrity doing a lap or two during the 1100 to 1400 slot!
Please donate today and help us raise as much as possible as we take on our challenge.
Together we'll be a force for hope, helping veterans with health conditions on their journey into work, so they can rebuild their lives.
A massive thank you to everyone who has supported the event so far.
