Ernie Hollister – 30.9.1941 – 31.3.2020
Everyone who knew Ernie has been profoundly shocked and saddened by his sudden death. Although affected by health issues for most of his life he never let them define him or his life which he lived to the absolute full – he will be remembered for his big smile, warmth, kindness, generosity and humour; qualities that live on in his much loved sons, Sam and Tom.
Born during the Second World War, Ernie experienced austerity and hardship but was never one to bemoan his fate and would regale family and friends with the most outrageous and entertaining stories of growing up with George in Islington. He left school at 15 and worked until the day he died. He started his magazine, Panel & Joinery Production, and was a well-known and much loved character within the industry.
Ernie was a victim of CoronaVirus. Respiratory issues meant he was unable to fight it despite giving it his best shot to the end. He died peacefully at Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital in Margate, with Clare by his side, cared for with dignity and compassion by the most exceptional and caring NHS staff.
His funeral will be mid April, 44 years to the day that he and Clare started out on their life together - they enjoyed a full and happy life sharing a special love and understanding – a team in every way. Due to current restrictions, sadly the funeral can only be attended by Clare, Sam, Tom and Alannah. However, the family plan to celebrate his life fully when circumstances change and his family and friends can all get together.
In accordance to Ernie’s wishes there will be flowers from immediate family only - a JustGiving page in support of East Kent Hospitals Charity for those who wish to donate. This charity was chosen by the family to support and thank those who selflessly provide frontline care at the NHS.
R.I.P. Ernie.
You have left a huge hole not just in the lives of your family but everyone who was fortunate enough to have known you. You will be forever in our hearts.
