Story
Welcome to my TCS London Marathon 2024 profile page for Diabetes UK.
I am running in memory of a close loved one; Samuel who had Diabetes and he sadly lost his life aged just 21 years old.
I am dedicating my marathon to an incredible child I have had the pleasure of teaching for the past year. Here is AbdulWahab’s story, written by his parents.
Abdulwahab is a bright young boy who at the age of five was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and was admitted as an emergency through the A & E, spending five days in the hospital, receiving numerous injections and tests. Afterwards he was sent home on life-long therapy of insulin. This was a life changing event with major consequences to him and his family's life.
Going through the stages of grief, he accepted his new condition, and he is learning how to cope and live with it, he had to miss several days of school, activities and social life.
However, he is starting to thrive again with the help of his family, fabulous teachers and friends at school, living in the hope of one day will find the cure.
Being a diabetic is quite challenging, complex and hard, affecting daily life activities, but by understanding and getting positive attitude with learning key elements in dealing with diabetes, acquiring proper diet, taking regular insulin and keep on adjusting the doses according to the requirements with continuous glucose monitoring and most important being physically active could help to live full lives.
We dream of a world in the near future where diabetes can do no harm.
If you are able to donate, no matter how big or small, I would be extremely grateful.
Thank you for reading,
