Story

Denis Callanan

My brother Denis was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December 2022 and tragically passed away in February 2023. Denis loved life, his family, his friends, good food, a quiet chat and farming. Denis had a great sense of humour, greeted everyone with joy and always had a smile on his face.

Denis faced cancer with unyielding courage, and his spirit continues to inspire me every day. Even as the illness brought him considerable pain, his faith was strong, helping him to bear his ordeal with remarkable strength, patience and hope. Denis' courage in the face of adversity was a testament to his character and an inspiration to us all. His spirit was defined not by his illness but by the love he radiated, the joy he created, and the depth of faith he shared with everyone around him.

To honor his memory, and to help others experiencing the impacts of cancer, I am participating in the Dublin City Marathon to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society.

Cancer

Cancer is the most common cause of death in Ireland with more than 9,000 people in Ireland dying each year. That's almost 25 people dying from cancer every day in Ireland.

Irish Cancer Society

The Irish Cancer Society provides support to those impacted by cancer and their families, as well as funding research and raising awareness about various types of cancer. They are working towards a future where nobody dies from cancer, and everyone affected by the disease will have access to world class treatment and support. It is a community of patients, survivors, volunteers, supporters, health and social care professionals and researchers that are determined to help anyone affected by cancer in Ireland by:

- Providing free cancer information and support

- Working to ensure more cancers are caught early

- Funding life-changing cancer research

- Working with the Government to make those patients’ lives better.

Please Donate

The Irish Cancer Society relies on public generosity through donations and fundraising. This is where I need your help. As I embark on this marathon journey in memory of my brother Denis, I ask you to join the cause. Your generosity to the Irish Cancer Society can fuel hope, aid groundbreaking research and provide comfort to those facing the devastation of cancer.

Every donation, regardless of size, will make a significant difference. For Denis, and for those we can help with our collective effort, please consider making a donation to the Irish Cancer Society today.

I am grateful for your support.

Thank you.
