Story

"There is a natural law, a divine law, that obliges you and me to relieve the suffering, the distressed and the destitute."     ― Conrad Hilton

Dearest Friends & Family,

I’m about to embark on 1 of the craziest things I’ve ever done. This November I’ll be joining the WOAM Expedition to Papua, which will have us trekking for 8 days through the jungles of Indonesia & living with the Papuan tribe in Korowai.

We're trekking for 8hrs a day in tropical, raw jungle conditions and we'll be sleeping in the open. This means lots of bugs, mosquitos & other nasty animals no one ever wants to see, not to mention diseases & parasites!

It’s all part of the fun! A highlight of the trip: the moment we get to take a bite of a fat, juicy Sago worm! I've added images below to help you gag.

There are many reasons why I’m doing this, but the greatest of them all is LOVE.

With this sentiment comes an overwhelming need to take part in the universal movement of “CHARITY”. Therefore, I’ve joined the amazing Women for Women International (WfWI) UK group of incredible women to make a difference in someone's life.

WfWI is a non-profit humanitarian organization dedicated to financial, educational, and interpersonal support of women survivors of war, poverty, and injustice. NEED I SAY MORE? I think NOT! They had me at ‘Hello’.

If you’d like to know more about the impressive contribution WfWI makes to these women, follow these links... https://www.womenforwomen.org.uk/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iarxgcit0gU

Your giving spirit is needed. As a team, we're aiming to raise $50,000 SGD. That will take many helping hands to make it happen.

What a privilege it is to help each other!

Papua Fun Facts:

Known primarily for being one of the last active tribes of cannibals, the Korowai of Papua, in Indonesia, lived in total isolation until first contacted by Dutch missionaries in the 1970s. But while the tribal penchant for cannibalism was what got them the most press. YIKES!
Another fascinating cultural trait: they are the fantastic architects of towering tree homes built as high as 114 feet above the ground! And up we’re gonna GO!
The Korowai are hunter-gatherers and horticulturalists who practice shifting cultivation. They have excellent hunting and fishing skills. Let’s hope there lots to hunt for! Don’t fancy myself becoming someone's lunch!
The island of New Guinea, the second largest in the world after Greenland, is a mountainous, sparsely populated tropical landmass divided between two countries: the independent nation of Papua New Guinea in the east, and the Indonesian provinces of Papua and West Irian Jaya in the west. The Korowai live in southeastern Papua.
