Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
I'm raising money for Erb's Palsy on behalf of my cousin Andrew. This charity has been fundamental in supporting his immediate family and particularly Andrew himself.
Below is some information around Andrew's experience with Erb's Palsy.
Erbs palsy is not a common condition it is caused through injury, normally at birth, and affects a group of nerves called brachial plexus. If these are damaged it can cause paralysis in the arm, severity depending amount of damage done, because it's nerve damage no one can tell exactly how much recovery there will be or how long it will take.
As new parents it's devastating enough for this to have happened but to be told no one knows how much you're baby will recover is horrific. Only through the Internet were we able to find information about it and through that the Erb's palsy group.
Once we got I touch it was such a relief to have someone else who's child had went through what you were facing. Karen hillier who I spoke to was great she told me who I should be seeing to make sure Andrew got best treatment.
When surgery was first mentioned at 3 months she explained exactly what would happen and what we should expect. Since that first operation Andrew has had another 6 surgeries the longest being 12 hours.
The group have been there for nearly 12 years giving us advice on anything from adapting clothes when in casts to wether or not the pins and needles he experiences is caused by sensation returning or just the way he is luring.
They also every year organise a fun day where all members are invited to meet up and meet each other. All there funding is done through fundraisers as they get no government help.
If you don't think that's worthy of some charity donation, I don't know what is!!!!
To raise money we're doing a variety of things - tombola, home baking stall, sponsored waxing etc and people also have the opportunity to just donate some spare change!
Please give whatever you can to help this great charity keep up the essential work they do supporting families.
