Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

The pupils at Downsend School- Epsom Lodge are taking part in a sponsored walk in aid of Adam Bird, who attended our school until July 2008. In July of last year, Adam was diagnosed with High-Risk Neuroblastoma a rare and aggressive cancer.  Since his diagnosis Adam has had surgery to remove a gland in his neck, had an intravenous line fitted directly into his heart for drug administration, undergone 8 months of intensive chemotherapy, endured dozens of invasive testing procedures and needed numerous blood and platelet transfusions. Such a lot for a little boy to go through. Despite all his treatment at the Royal Marsden he has not responded well and detectable cancer cells remain active in his bone marrow and throughout his body. http://www.adamsappeal.org/

Adam's family are urgently trying to raise £300,000 to be given the opportunity to take Adam to America for treatments that are not available in the UK.   As a school we feel this would be a great opportunity to help raise much needed funds and feel strongly about helping Adam get the best treatment.
