Story
Thanks for your support to Human Rights Watch, a leading international human rights organisation dedicated to defending and promoting human rights around the world. By shining a spotlight where human rights are violated, its work gives a voice to victims and holds perpetrators of abuses accountable for their crime. HRW's rigorous investigations and strategic advocacy expose human rights abuses and lay the necessary groundwork to create meaningful, lasting change. Since 1978, Human Rights Watch has fought to uphold human dignity and bring greater security and justice to people around the world.
The funds raised from the Royal Parks Half Marathon will be destined to support the Environment and Human Rights Division. As our generation faces serious environmental and social crises, the potential of the right to a healthy environment for progressive development and accountability cannot be understated. Its global recognition is long overdue. This right brings together the environmental dimensions of civil, cultural, economic, political, and social rights, and protects the core elements of the natural environment that enable a life of dignity. It will give those exposed to mercury in artisanal gold mines in the Philippines, those poisoned by soot in Piquiá de Baixo in northeastern Brazil, those contaminated by lead in Kosovo, and activists attacked for protecting their environment and lands, the tools and political leverage they need to defend their rights.
