Story
Last year, my wife discovered she had been suffering with endometriosis following a serious bout of pain whilst camping in Cornwall.
She thought it was just "normal" cycle pain but after a few days passing by without it easing, we packed up for the 6 hour drive home then rushed to our local hospital for diagnosis. It was only after numerous referrals and consultations that we realised she had been suffering with endometriosis for possibly years without any understanding or recognisable signs.
We were extremely lucky to have private healthcare available through work so, after being fast-tracked through two lots of surgery (one 2 days before Christmas), she is now showing signs of improvement and pain management.
It turns out endometriosis affects more than 1 in 10 women in the UK, mostly down to misdiagnosis and unrecognisable symptoms. With March being Endometriosis Awareness Month, I've committed to running 10 rounds of 10km to raise awareness and funds for the Endometriosis UK charity.
I've only ever managed one 10km run in the past and that was after months of building up to it. Taking on a ten-fold challenge in a month is a serious effort for me – it means I'll have to do it every 3 days when it takes me at least 24 hours to recover.
Please donate to the fundraiser if you can spare a few pounds. I'll also be adding £10 to the pot every time I complete 10km as an added incentive.
Thank you.
