CYCLING THE LENGTH OF BRITAIN TO CURE RARE CANCER
On Monday 8 August a dedicated group of enthusiastic cyclists (some of whom have actually done some training!) will begin the 920 mile cycle from John O’Groats to Lands End (“JOGLE”), taking 11 days to cycle from the top of Scotland to the tip of Cornwall.
The aim is to raise as much money as possible to help find a cure for Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma (ACC), an incredibly rare and (currently) incurable form of cancer.
The team is led by Charlie Jaggard, whose wife Mel suffers from ACC. The bad news about ACC is that it is relentless and because it is so rare the big cancer charities and pharmaceutical companies do very little research into ACC. The encouraging news is that it is slow growing, so we have some time to find the cure, made doubly important now that Mel is pregnant with twins!
The bike ride is entirely self-funded, so every penny we raise on this adventure will go directly to ACC research activities.
Last year Charlie and Mel's Dad, Rod, went from Land's End to John O'Groats, with a group of mates joining in and we raised over £50,000, which was an awe-inspiring response from our supporters.
This year the team is bigger and has taken on the challenge to ride North to South into the prevailing wind - we want to spread the word far and wide, and to raise as much cash as possible!!!
