Story
Kirsty, Emma, Aaron and Charlie are heading to Peru to make a difference to people affected by cancer and mental health
Lock down was a difficult time for many, especially if dealing with additional pressure such as illness or poor mental health.
My sister Kirsty is my best friend and my hero. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer it was no surprise that she tried hard to stay positive for herself and her family. It was also no surprise that at times she found this tough.
A huge turning point in her being able to stay strong was receiving support from Cavendish Cancer Care. They offered her emotional support as well as practical support around nutrition and relaxation. My 2 young nieces, aged 9 and 11, were offered art therapy to help them express and process their emotions.
It was also no surprise when my sis suggested this trek to raise vital funds to enable Cavendish Cancer Care to continue to provide their vital support to other people and families, it's just the kind of person she is. I didn't hesitate in stepping up too. Not only do I want to support this amazing organisation but for me it is also an opportunity to do it in a way that creates beautiful memories with my sister Kirsty, son Aaron and his friend Charlie (raising for Mind)- if the last few years has shown me anything it's that we can not take anything for granted.
It is going to be a challenge for all of us. The trek involves 4 days walking, approx 8 hours a day, at altitude. I have started training - it's going to take some serious work! I am walking and swimming most days and starting resistance training too.
I hope you can help keep me motivated with a donation that will help support this wonderful charity.
Thank you xx
