Porterbrook Three Peaks Challenge by Rail 2022 · 9 June 2022 to 11 June 2022 ·

Railway Children has a vision of a world in which no child is lost to the streets. Across the UK, India and Tanzania, our networks provide an opportunity for us to reach children who are alone and vulnerable before they come to serious harm. Together, we’re determined we’ll leave no child behind.

Story

This year Team EMR are taking part in Railway Children’s
Three Peaks Challenge By Rail. We’re aiming to raise over £8k support Railway
Children provide protection and opportunity for children with nowhere else to
go and nobody to turn to.

The Event
Between 9th and 11th June we will be climbing Snowdon,
Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis, raising money for Railway Children.

The challenge will start at the foot of Snowdon at about 10pm;
the team won’t be able to see the top of the mountain until they have traversed
the difficult terrain in the dark. After reaching the summit, there’s no time
to celebrate as it’s straight back down again before boarding that train at 4:30am
to take the team to Ravenglass.

After a sleeping upright for a couple of hours on the train,
Team EMR will arrive in Cumbria at around 9am. It’s then a short 6k walk to the
foot of Scafell Pike before beginning the ascend up the 977m mountain. After
another successful climb, the team will head down and make their way by train
to Fort William overnight.

On June 11th the team will embark on their biggest challenge yet. At
1325m, Ben Nevis is the largest mountain in the UK. After arriving at 0430am
following another broken night’s sleep and sporting all of the aches and pains
associated with climbing two mountains, the team will make the ascend through
the zigzagging paths to the top of the UK before heading down and reflecting on
their achievements.

We really hope you will help us achieve our fund raising
target, any donation big or small is greatly appreciated. Stay tuned for photos
of how we get on with the challenge!
