Royal Parks Half Marathon 2019 · 13 October 2019 ·

We’re the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. We’re working to improve diagnosis and treatment; to fund research and to raise awareness.

Story

A team of eight colleagues from EMR Settlement Limited are running the Royal Parks Half Marathon on behalf of Crohn's and Colitis UK. The reason for selecting this charity is due to one of the runners in the team (Luke Wilson) being diagnosed with Crohn's on 14 January 2019 at the age of only 20.

Crohn's is a type of inflammatory bowel disease which causes redness, swelling and pain anywhere in your mouth, oesophagus, stomach, small and large intestines in the form of very severe ulcers. After suffering for 4 months, Luke had to undergo a number of tests to confirm the diagnosis. He is currently receiving medical treatment to deal with the inflammation but is aware that this is something that doesn't just go away and he will have to take medication for the rest of his life to deal with the ongoing pain and discomfort.

Crohn's and Colitis UK is the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. The work they do is key to the long term support for this life altering disease. Right now, over 300,000 people in the UK are living with Crohn’s - a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of.

In fact, the real number of Crohn’s sufferers could be almost double that figure. The stigma and misunderstanding surrounding the diseases means that many people are misdiagnosed.

Any donations are greatly appreciated!
