Story
I lost my sister to cancer in 2017 and Stephen was an inspiration to her and so many people. Lou (or as we often called her, Scooby) fought a Pineoblastoma (a very aggressive brain tumour) for just over 3 years but I lost my best friend when she was just 25 years old.
Teenage Cancer Trust provided the specialist support and care she needed and I can’t tell you how thankful we are to them for helping Lou (and us!). Only 50% of young cancer patients receive this support because Teenage Cancer Trust haven’t got the funds to reach everyone. This support and help is outstanding and even though our Lou lost her battle, her three year fight could have been a lot less without their help. The wards, nurses and support workers make a huge difference to a young cancer patient. They know they are different from a child and make sure they do not face cancer alone. We were able to leave Lou at night knowing she felt safe and comfortable when she was on a TCT ward. She almost felt at home. Compared to the normal Oncology and Neuro wards where we felt awful leaving Lou at night and she’d be very upset when visiting hours were over. On a TCT ward there were no visiting hours, we could visit anytime. Rebecca was Lou’s Nurse and no question was ever too small. Rebecca was there for Lou and us as her family. She was always honest and was there whenever we needed her.
Stephen passed away just after Lou was diagnosed with cancer. He really inspired her and I know if she was here she’d be wanting to do him proud by helping to move Stephen's fundraising total above £6 million through the support of the 'Zip Wire for Stephen' campaign. The difference being that Scoobs would be laughing all the way down as I'll be screaming - I absolutely HATE heights!
I’m so grateful for any donations. Every amount really counts and will help Teenage Cancer Trust to reach all young people with cancer. Thank you x
