On the 28th June 2015 I will be running a 5k in the Race for Life at Campbell Park in Milton Keynes. Some may remember that back in 2012 I did the Race for Life with my mum and cousin, Meg, but this time my aim is to run.
The reason I did the race for life in 2012 is because at the time, my mum was going through chemotherapy for breast cancer, which she was diagnosed with in December 2011. The experience, although eye-opening, was terrifying and very hard on all of our family. For a year we spent endless weeks in hospital with my mum when she came down with colds (which are life threatening for low-immunity chemotherapy patients) and surgery, it was scary and at times we thought we'd lose her. We pulled through it, and so did mum.
But I am constantly aware that we are the lucky ones. So many people are diagnosed with cancer when it is too late, and I can only imagine what it must be like for them and their families. That is why I am running the race for life this year.
Myself and my friend Jess are running to help Cancer Research find a cure for cancer as soon as they can to stop other people dying and suffering from this horrible disease.
