Story
40 years ago, the survival rate for Breast Cancer was 46%, it is now 80%. 40 years ago, the survival rate for Pancreatic Cancer was 3%. It is still 3%. It is the 5th most common cause of cancer death and has the lowest survival rate. Yet despite this only 1% of cancer funding goes towards research into pancreatic cancer.
So on Sunday 10 May 2015, I am running the Run Vitality Hackney Half Marathon.
My chosen charity is the Ralph Bates Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund. I have chosen this particular charity because unlike many charities most of the money they receive goes directly towards research costs and not the overheads of running the company:
http://www.ralphbatespcr.org.ukI am running in memory of my lovely Dad, Roger Keele, who lost his battle with the disease in 2008... whilst also remembering another great Roger, Roger Lloyd Pack, who was taken by pancreatic cancer last year.
Would love it if you could donate. Any amount no matter how large or small, will give me the motivation I need to complete the run...
Or if you see me staggering round Hackney on Sunday 10 May, please call me Dave. If nothing else it will bring a much needed smile to my weary face!
