Story
Hello!
I will be running the Brighton Half Marathon this coming February and am hoping to raise at least £275 for Water Aid – an international organisation whose mission is to transform lives by improving access to safe water in the worlds poorest communities.
Growing up in the bushland of Australia where my family lived off rain water (making showers and toilet flushing scarce during a standard Queensland drought) has not only made me hate the idea of water wastage but has allowed me to realise how bloody lucky we are to live in a society where access to clean water takes only as much effort as a twist of the hand.
Water and sanitation underpin health, education and livelihoods, and yet hundreds of millions of people live without these basic human rights.
Please sponsor my 21km run. I know you may be thinking "Feck, I’m so poor – someone should be donating money to me!" (Because that’s what I’m thinking) but let's face it - our #firstworldproblems don't really match up. Just a mere donation of £2 can pay for a rainwater collection system and £5 can provide a locally made hand pump for a whole village. Come on, it’s less than a pint of beer.
If nothing has inspired you thus far, please be encouraged by the wise words of the recently passed Nelson Mandela: “Let there be justice for all. Let there be peace for all. Let there be work, bread, water and salt for all,”
Good on ya, Nelso. Ya bloody trooper.
Procrastinate not, and donate some money to help other humans who aren’t as lucky as you, to live.
