Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
As I've turned 30, I am challenging myself to run my first ever Marathon, and why not go big and run the iconic London Marathon 2023!
I am supporting Young Lives vs Cancer as I have unfortunately experienced childhood cancer first hand. I was diagnosed with a rare form (only around 50 children in the UK are diagnosed each year) called Langerhans cell histiocytosis when I was only 6 months old, and had extensive chemotherapy up until I was 18 months old.
The cancer and aggressive treatment made my bones so weak that I wasn’t able to walk until I was 3 years old. Unfortunately due to the destructive nature of the disease I have permanent 100% loss of hearing in my left ear.
I fully understand the distress and devastation that cancer can cause both to the individuals and the wider family particularly when affecting people so young and that is why I want to help Young Lives vs Cancer.
Young Lives vs Cancer are a charity that helps children and young people (0-25) and their families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. They provide day to day support, financial assistance, homes from home, emotional and bereavement counselling in addition to campaigning for more support for those fighting childhood cancers.
During 2021-22 alone, they supported over 6,100 children, young people and their families, to help them cope with their cancer diagnosis and get their lives back on track.
