Story
Dear Family and Friends
To get straight to the point - did you know that brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40. Unfortunately in the UK the diagnosis time is very poor compared to other countries. Most know the symptoms of meningitis but few know the symptoms of a brain tumour. The HeadSmart campaign is designed to raise awareness of the symptoms of brain tumours in children with the main aim of reducing diagnosis time.
Our good friends Toby and Sacha Langton-Gilks lost their son David in 2012 aged 16. He was diagnosed with a brain tumour when he was 11. Sacha had been completely unaware of the symptoms. Had David seen a doctor quicker he may have needed only 1 operation (and a chance of survival) rather than the 11 he endured during his 5 year battle against brain cancer.
The Brain Tumour Charity (which relies 100% on voluntary donations) leads the ongoing promotion and funding of HeadSmart with Sacha at its helm. Since its launch in June 2011, average diagnosis times have been reduced by over 2 weeks to 6.9 weeks. It aims to get this down to under 5 weeks to be on a par with, if not better than, the rest of the world.
Your money will go towards vital campaign materials which include wallet-sized symptoms cards, posters, leaflets, a website and an on-line learning tool. Please take the time to look up headsmart.org.uk. This information will save lives.
Many thanks for your support
