Story
In May, Team SIA will be taking on the 2022 Overseas Cycling Challenge, to peddle 193 miles through Tuscany.
Helen is joining the SIA team and will also represent Emma Way who, due to undergoing recent surgery, is unfortunately now unable to partake herself. As a keen horse rider, Helen has had her fair share of injuries, breaking nearly all of her ribs, collar bone and most of her fingers. In 2010 came the ‘big one’. Falling from her horse, Helen sustained an unstable vertebral fracture at T3 and C2 (‘The Hangman’s break’) and shattered both wrist joints. After weeks immobilised some skilled surgery and some much needed rehabiliation, Helen was able to walk again. She later heard of the SIA and realised the wonderful support they offered those who faced even greater challenges than herself.
In her own words, Helen explains, ‘At 68 years old, I still enjoy cycling and riding and continue to enjoy a fulfilling life. I am determined to practice on my trusted three speed bike in order to be ready for the hills and complete Team SIA’s Tuscany Challenge. This will be no easy feat and I would be extremely grateful for any sponsorship to help me on my way in supporting this worthy cause. Thank you.’
