Story

Dear friends, colleagues and complete (but kind) strangers

Marie Curie provide care and support for people with terminal illness.  As the partnership between Riverside and Marie Curie draws to an end, Riverside colleagues have decided to take on the challenge of a lifetime and undertake the Borneo Trek, raising much needed funds for Marie Curie.

As a self-confessed overweight, unfit accountant with a dodgy back, preparing and training for this event will be a huge undertaking; any sponsorship that you can provide will help to keep me on track.  The quicker I reach my target, the less opportunity I have to back out!

Those who know me well will see similarities with the challenge I set myself back in 2016 to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.  Whilst this challenge doesn't involve altitude, in many ways it will be much harder as we will need to be self-sufficient for the entire trek.  We will eat mainly what we forage and will have the joys of setting up camp (yes, including digging the latrines!) each night after hours of trekking through the Borneo rainforest.  This is wild camping at its very wildest!

I know the past few years have been challenging for everyone, so any amount that you can spare to sponsor me is gratefully received.  Every penny you donate towards my target goes directly to the charity.  I am extremely fortunate that I have saved a lot of money on train fares over the past couple of years by working from home, so I have used these monies to self-fund the cost of the trip, so every penny of sponsorship goes to where it is needed most.  I know that I am very lucky to be able to do this, but to be able to participate in this amazing experience, I do still need to raise enough funds for the charity to secure my place; so please dig deep if you can.

With only weeks to go, I think I am more excited than nervous, but seeing the donations come in really makes a difference and keeps me going with the training and preparation.

Thank you all in advance for your support

Love Em xx
