UPDATE:
WE SWAM THE CHANNEL!
On 20th August 2023, we swam the English Channel in 14 hours and 54 minutes. Thank you so much to everybody who has kindly sponsored me so far. It's not too late to donate if you haven't!
In a moment of madness, I have signed up to swim the channel alongside a team of 5 of my work colleagues.
In Summer 2023, provided the weather plays ball, we will be taking part in a relay swim across the actual English Channel. We will swim for an hour at a time, crossing from Dover to France, with the swim taking a total of approximately 12-16 hours.
We are doing this to raise money for Aspire, a national charity that provides practical help to people who have been paralysed by Spinal Cord Injury. A spinal cord injury can happen to anyone at any time, and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. People with Spinal Cord Injury will lose muscle and sensory control and a large majority will become full time wheelchair users for the rest of their lives. Historically, the majority of spinal injuries have been sustained by those aged 21 to 30, with nearly three quarters of new spinal cord injury patients being male.
Through its projects and programmes, Aspire offers practical support to the 50,000 people living with a spinal cord injury in the UK, from newly injured spinal cord injury patients in hospital and throughout their lives.
