Story

Hi

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page for Iain Rennie Hospice at Home.

When My Gorgeous Mum was diagnosed with incurable cancer in August 2011 my world fell apart.  I have a fantastic Husband and two great kids, but my Mum had known me 43 years and was my Mum, my best friend and my Rock!

I felt as though a light had gone out in those first few days, but managed through her strength and stoicism to be strong and positive, spending precious time together as and when we could.

For the first 5 months nobody would have known Mum had cancer, as she was the same chirpy positive self, never wanting to put upon anyone and when asked, "Hi how are you", by friends who knew nothing of her diagnosis, she would reply "fine thankyou" rather than burdening their day with her news!

After sessions of chemo and radiotherapy Mum began to get tired and struggled to continue with he usual everyday stuff.  I realised our lovely shopping days and girls lunches were to be a thing of the past.

She fought a brave battle, never being a burden or putting upon us as a family and continued to the end to be a fab Mum and Grandma.  Dad cared for her perfectly, I know she was incredibly grateful (and proud) however the assistance he gained from the Iain Rennie nurses was invaluable to him and he always looked forward to seeing them.

They cared for Mum with genuine love, respect and thoughfulness, in the way that any daughter would want her beloved Mother cared for, and for that  and the support they constantly gave my fantastic  Father - I want to say a massive thank you!!

For me now everyday hurts, but when I am doing the triathlon and my legs hurt and my heart feels like it will burst I will think of Mum and the money we are raising and push that extra bit needed to get me across the finish line.

Thanks for your support. x
