We breed and train guide dogs to give blind people freedom and mobility

Story

In September last year, we sat and watched the Great North Run on the TV and thought that it would be a brilliant idea to give it a go! However, with the Run now only several weeks away, we are starting to question our great plan!!

2014 didn't start very well, with both of us having minor health scares and so we really wanted to get fit and set ourselves a big challenge. What better than a half marathon?! Neither of us had any great running experience but we started training through the winter and secured our place in the Great North Run 2015 earlier this year.

As well as challenging ourselves, we really wanted to do some good at the same time by raising some money for charity and so partly due to our love of dogs, we will be running for Guide Dogs for the Blind. Guide Dogs is a fantastic charity which provides mobility & freedom to blind and partially sighted people, yet receives no government funding & relies entirely on donations.

Did you know that the lifetime cost of a guide dog is around £50,000 and Guide Dogs are currently responsible for over 8,000 dogs?

We are really looking forward to the Great North Run on the 13th September and would be very grateful for any donations towards our challenge and to support this very worthwhile charity – thank you!!

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
