Story
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit our fundraising page. To raise funds for Footprints, Gav and Darren are walking 100,000 steps in a day, tracing the Thames from its source in Kemble to Oxford. The 100,000 steps should equate to about 50 miles, and they are expecting to be walking from 3:30am to 10:00pm. You can see more details about the route in the fundraising page gallery. Kitty is proving to be a vital part of the training program, as she provides an adequate weight source to build up Gav's shoulders, plus she's super cute!! Kitty attends weekly sessions with Footprints, a Nottingham based charity, who's mission is to provide Conductive Education and other services to help children with mobility and communication problems develop the skills they need to thrive and achieve their potential. Footprints have had to cope with the constant needs of their children with the enormous impact of COVID on their fundraising activities. Footprints needs to raise £200,000 a year and every single penny raised helps to make a difference.
Conductive Education is based on a ‘simple’ concept of human potential; meaning that everyone has the capability to learn and develop irrespective of their starting point. People with disabilities frequently spend much of their time being assessed for what they ‘cannot do’ rather than what potential they have. Conductors are highly trained to observe this potential in a person; to nurture their development and devise structured programmes to enable success.
