Story
Thank you everyone for my birthday messages. This time last year I was not in a good place I spent my birthday in hospital. I would like to announce something that I have been working hard towards with my recent weight loss of 26lb (nearly 2 stone) I will be running the Edinburgh half marathon this year on the 30th may 2015 for the charity Mental Health Foundation which is very close to my heart.
Some of you may know I suffer from bipolar disorder and recently after having my son harvey in 2013 I was in hospital in St. John's in Livingston for 6 months having been diagnosed with postpartum psychosis away from my family in Crieff my Daughter Brooke and partner Jason. Although harvey was with me. There I met some amazing people suffering from all types of mental health issues and met some strong beautiful people I am proud to call friends.
1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem in there lifetime. 9 out of 10 people will experience stigma or discrimination due to their mental health whether it be at work ( which I have experienced) school, friends, clubs.
I've experienced people coming up to me and saying
"I heard your a nutter "
"She's mental "
"She needs to be in murray royal "
Mental health problems need to be recognised as Equally and as equal priority to physical illnesses
Mental health foundation provide support to places like the mother and baby unit in Livingstone to support mothers and families going through mental health problems. As of yet there is no service like this in perth and kinross and I want to help and try and change that.
Getting the help from my family and friends pushed me to ask for help and it really changed my life. Without the help and support from them and the mental health foundation I would not be here today!
Please sponsor me even if it's just £1 and you can help people like me and others
Get the help they need and support and not be embarrassed to ask for help thank you
