Dove House Hospice Midnight Walk 2010

My friends and I are taking part in the Dove House Hospice Midnight Walk 2010. This is an 8.5 mile walk starting in Hessle, going across the Humber Bridge, through Barton and back to Hessle.
I am taking part in this walk in memory of my Mum Anita Morton. Mum was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma 20 years ago. As this was not a disease that had touched our family previously, hearing the dreaded 'C' word was like hearing a death sentence.
Thankfully, we were very lucky in the respect that the cancer was treatable with chemotherapy and eventually she went in to remission. We all breathed a collective sigh of relief and felt very blessed as other families were not as lucky as ours.
Over the years mum went in and out of remission and underwent further chemo and radiotherapy. Unfortunately, after a very long and brave fight the disease ended up getting the better of her and she went in to Dove House in May 2008.
She stayed there for 8 weeks before she passed away peacefully in July 2008. This was obviously a very traumatic time for us as a family. If it had not been for the doctors, specialist nurses, social workers and other members of staff we would not have come through this very difficult time.
They always treated her with respect and kept her pain free. My mum was a very proud lady and they helped her to keep her dignity during her time with them.
The staff that work at the Hospice can only be described as angels as I cannot think of a more appropriate name for them. They were always on hand for us to talk to and nothing was too much trouble. I can never repay them for the help and support that they provided for us as a family.
Please, please, please give as much as you can to Dove House Hospice. This very worthy cause needs your donations to carry on the work that they are doing and enable them to help other families like ours.
