Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page:
Many of you know that our dear friends Lou and Barney's son Fergus lost his battle with cancer last August. So many people have been touched by Fergus' life and Barney, Lou, Bea, Chester and Agnes have been so brave and such an inspiration to us and to many others. That inspiration has led to Paul and I running (well hopefully running the majority of!) the Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon!!
We are raising money for the Selly Oak, Acorns Children's Hospice and Lou (Fergus' mum) describes perfectly why this is such a wonderful cause:
'Acorns children’s hospice is a home from home for many children who have life limiting or terminal illness. It offers in-patient care, day respite and family support and counselling.
Many people believe a hospice is just an end of life treatment to the child. Somewhere that terminally ill children and their families go for a break or to die. Until you ever really have any contact with a hospice (and hopefully you never will) you can’t appreciate the love it can show.
Sadly our son, Fergus died in August 2016 following a 10 month battle of a rare form of brain tumour. Even though Fergus only used the facilities of Acorns a couple of times, the support and care we have received since his death as a family has been phenomenal.
We have had weekly contact with a specialist nurse who has come to our house to offer services, counselling and advice. All three of Fergus’s siblings are included in a sibling support group for bereaved children, where they meet other children who have been, or are going through similar situations.
We have been provided with days out i.e. cinema, shows etc to help us enjoy some family time together. Which are often difficult to face whilst grieving the loss of a child.
So many families need this service, so many families rely on its benefits, and so many families would not be able to cope or survive without it.
Please support our friends, Emma and Paul with a small sponsor for their huge efforts in running the Tunbridge Wells half marathon.'
Any donation will be hugely appreciated (and hopefully will spur us on through the last few weeks of training!!)
Thank you!
