Story
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
Gillie, Louise and I (three sisters/daughters of Pat and Richard Darby) are walking to raise money for Alzheimer's research because our wonderful mummy, Pat, died of Alzheimer's Disease in October 2015. The disease robbed her of her words which was very cruel because she was a great communicator, reader and writer. Gradually it took her away from us but she never lost her warmth and humour so we were lucky. Our maternal Granny and Uncle both died from dementia and so we are very aware of the long time span dementia has and the devastating effect on both the person with the disease and the family and friends around them.
We are walking together as we are united in our desire to raise funds for research but also in celebration of our mother's life, we don't live close to each other so really appreciate the opportunity to share this event together.
