I have recently been given the privilege of working for Weldmar and have quickly realised what a special place it is. Its full of people wanting to do their best for others who are probably facing one of the hardest times in their lives. I lost my mum to cancer at quite a young age, she was on the waiting list to be taken into Weldmar, then a fairly small & new Charity. Unfortunately for us that wish could not be granted for her. I would love to be able to give others the chance my mum never had. The journey from today until the end of the trek will be the toughest thing I've done in my life both physically and mentally and I have a long hard road to get there. It helps to know that it would of made my mum so proud knowing I am helping a Charity close to her heart and I know she will be with me every step of the way. Watch out Madagascar here I come !
Weldmar Hospicecare provides specialist care for adults in Dorset with a life limiting illness, and support for their loved ones. All of the care is provided for free, and they need to raise at least £18,000 every day to continue providing all of the amazing services to the standard the people of Dorset have become to know. These services includes care at home from Weldmar Community Nurses after being diagnosed with a life limiting illness, Weldmar at Home Nurses which allow a patients wish to die at home with 24 hour nursing in their final days as well as our Inpatient Unit in Dorchester, Dorset. Weldmar also offer counselling and bereavement support to patients and family members, support through social workers, complimentary therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy teams. They provide Wellbeing support and activities to patients their families and those recently bereaved and so much more. We are taking on a challenging twelve day trek with limited facilities across the towering mountains, verdant grasslands and exotic rain forests of the incredible island of Madagascar to support Weldmar Hospicecare alongside some community work within a village at the end of our trek before returning home. Thank you for reading our story and supporting us! Now for the fundraising!!!!
