Story
I am taking on the challenge of the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise money for the Meningitis Now Charity.
The Meningitis Now Charity is one which I hold close in my heart, along with my families' hearts after being diagnosed from Meningitis at such a young age.
When I was just 3 days old, I was rushed into hospital severely unwell with the first signs of Meningitis, after numerous tests and scans I was diagnosed with Meningitis specifically Meningococcal Disease. A life-threatening infection which can result in life-changing disabilities such as organ damage or loss of limbs.
I was one of the very lucky ones, my parents had got me to the hospital and to specialists quick enough that I was able to have the correct treatment to prevent septicaemia taking over my body. The doctors at Frimley Park Hospital saved my little life. I then spent 2-3 weeks in the hospital and 2-3 years with visits to hospital undergoing scans and tests to ensure I had not suffered life changing complications such as hearing loss.
I am very fortunate to be here today at 21 years old and to have not had my life impacted by disabilities from Meningitis.
Today, half a million people in the UK live with the impact of meningitis. Without vaccines to protect against all types of meningitis, it continues to strike, devastating families across the UK. Meningitis is the inflammation of the membranes that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. It can strike quickly and without the correct treatment kill within hours.
Which is why I am taking on the challenge of the London Landmarks Half Marathon, to raise money for the Meningitis Now Charity, so that they can continue to help and support those individuals and families of individuals suffering with this devastating illness.
I am very grateful for any donations which you may be able to give and thank you in advance!
