Hi I'm Emma, 25th of July I'm planning on walking up Ben Nevis to raise awareness of a condition I've suffered with since a child. Some of you may know I have Ehlers danlos syndrome (EDS) type 3 or Hypermobilty syndrome. EDS is a genetic defect in the connective tissue, the tissue that provides support to many body parts such as the skin, muscle and ligaments. Of the four types of tissue, connective tissue is the most abundant and most widely distributed, and it has the widest range of functions. That is why it affects such a large part in our bodies! In fact three layers of connective tissue hold together muscle fibres to form a single muscle! So you can imagine how that going wrong can cause major issues. Which basically means I have loose/unstable joints which are prone to dislocate. I get severe pain and fatigue which I suffer with everyday. I know some of you may think that walking up a mountain is not that hard but for someone with EDS it's almost impossible, I struggle to walk even round the supermarket some days. It's going to be hard but I'm so determined to do it. I want to help others and raise awareness of this invisible condition. http://www.ehlers-danlos.org/page.
