Helping to save one million children's lives

Story

I am fortunate to have been selected by GSK to cycle from London to Paris whilst raising money for Save the Children.
Pedalling into the spiritual home of cycling on the eve of the Tour de France after completing this milestone achievement for a fantastic cause will be an unimaginable experience.

Many of you will know that after getting hit by a car whilst cycling to work 2 years ago I have been through a challenging personal journey to recover from my injuries, regain my strength and a struggle with decreasing confidence. Consequently, my outlook has changed and cycling is no longer just about fitness and racing but about enjoying the countryside, the feeling of freedom and exhilaration, meeting new and fellow cyclists and continuing to challenge myself.
I want to put my love of cycling to a good cause,  act as an ambassador for both GSK and the sport whilst promoting women in cycling and inspiring others to meet their own personal challenges.

This challenge will take me almost 500Km's in only 4 days and GSK will match all donations received.
The GSK-Save the Children Partnership

In 2013, GSK and Save the Children formed a ground-breaking partnership
combining Save the Children’s global reach and experience, with GSK’s
innovation, resources and expertise. The purpose of our shared value partnership
is to help save the lives of one million children by tackling preventable
under-five child mortality

So far, globally, we have raised over £2.6 million which, combined
with further support from GSK, has contributed to programmes in 41 countries
and helped over 2.6 million children – including fully vaccinating over 97,500
children under 5, helping over 254,000 children affected by humanitarian
crises, and training over 16,000 health workers.

Through funds raised in the UK, GSK is supporting two programmes and to date your money has helped over 523 children and 100 families through:

Born to Read - a programme that helps children, who are falling
behind, to read confidently, by placing volunteer reading helpers in schools across England. So far, GSK has helped transform the literacy and life chances of 456 children by training and supporting 152 volunteers to provide one-on-one reading support.

Eat, Sleep, Learn, Play! - a programme that provides essential items, such as a cooker, a bed or a pushchair, to low income families who have young children and can't afford these items themselves. Through the provision of these items we help to reduce the financial burden on families, hopefully alleviating family stress and creating a better environment in the home for children to reach their potential.
