Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Please donate what you can for Macmillan. An organisation close to my heart- as it was where my Grandpa spent the last few weeks of his life- being looked after by Macmillan nurses and staff.
Grandpa made it to the grand old age of 98- with nearly his entire life with no more than a sniffle or sore knee. But such is life- 2 years ago began to become frail after a cancerous growth appeared on his head. After tests and treatments- it didnt look great- but as Grandpa reported to the Doctor on one of his visits- 'im going to fight it!' and that he did for as long as he could. He was looked after by the caring nurses at Macmillan in his last few weeks- but after a fall and time in a local hospital- he was then too weak to ever go home again.
He outlived two wives- the first- Granny Jean with whom he had his four Children. Grandpa- known to his four grandchildren (and many of our friends who were luckily enough to meet him) often as 'The Dude'- was simple the best human being ive ever known. SO talented, caring, loving and mild mannered- he was loved by all who knew him.
The world is surely a sader place without him.
Figures still show that 1 in 2 people in the UK born after 1960 will now be diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime!
