Thanks for visiting my Race for Life sponsorship page.  I will be taking part in the 5km Race For Life on 1st June 2014 to raise money for Cancer Research UK.  So come on, dig deep and sponsor me online - it's quick and easy and totally secure.  

Cancer is the leading cause of disease worldwide with 14.1 million new cases of cancer per year... yes you read that correctly - 14.1 million new cases every year!

1 in 3 people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their life and it accounts for 1 in 4 deaths in the UK.

I'm pretty sure every one of you knows someone who has cancer, have beaten cancer or who, despite putting up one hell of a fight, has unfortunately lost their battle with cancer.

Cancer is not racist, it is not sexist and it is not ageist - it can happen to anyone, anywhere.  And even though for some, cancer is not the death sentence that it once was - with survival rates doubling in the last 40 years - there are still way too many people out there suffering the devastating effects of cancer. There is still a long way to go before it is no longer the big bad C-word that we all fear .

That's why events like Race for Life are soooo vital in funding Cancer Research UK's life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. We need to unite and create a force that cancer can't ignore.
