Story
Something I NEVER thought that I would be posting, but I’m proud to say that I have been allocated a charity place for the London Marathon in October.
Myeloma UK is very close to our hearts.
Several years ago now my dad was carrying Jack as a baby, excited to get him to the beach in Lyme Regis. Unbeknown to dad the council had installed a ramp to the beach, changing the levels of pavement.
He took a tumble, totally encasing Jack in a cocoon as he fell, Jack was shocked but undamaged, dad soldiered on (as they do) and enjoyed playing on the beach (in silent pain).
Transpires he had broken some ribs which he was told would heal - they didn’t, and after a few months of pain, further investigations were undertaken.
He was diagnosed with Myeloma, a type of bone marrow cancer. He has been very poorly at times over the years and has had many treatments. He’ll never not have Myeloma, but has learnt to live with it.
When Jack was old enough to understand dad’s illness he thought that it was his fault that grandad was poorly, but we’ve explained that grandad wouldn’t have been diagnosed without him❤️.
Long winded way of saying that I hope I do Myeloma UK and dad proud. I’m not going to pressurise myself by setting a time target - I just want to get round. The only target I’m setting is £2k for Myeloma UK.
The charity offers support to patients, researching treatments and ways of diagnosing Myeloma earlier. They are the only UK charity focused on the discovery, development and access to new effective treatments.
I’m hoping that my lovely friends will support me with whatever they are able. And, if anyone local passes when I’m out training, shout at me or throw something at me - I’m going to need all the support I can get.
What am I doing…….. 🏃♀️
