Story
On Sunday, 2nd October, I will be running the London Marathon for Cardiac Risk in the Young, a charity very close to my heart* ❤️🩹
*pun intended
At the age of 11 years old I was diagnosed with Long QT Syndrome, an abnormal feature of the heart's electrical system that can lead to potentially life-threatening arrhythmias that may result in sudden cardiac death.
As a young 11 year old girl whose life revolved around sport and being in the swimming pool this was absolutely devastating. I spent the next 4-5 years of my life trying to find a new hobby which would fill a large void now that I was no longer able to take part in any form of strenuous exercise.
Together with the help and support of CRY I was allowed to make a phased return to sport. Although my participation remained restricted to some extent making a return to the pool would never have been possible without this incredible charity!
CRY as a charity helps to prevent young sudden cardiac deaths through awareness, screening and research, and supporting affected families.
Any donations, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated and will go a long way in helping this incredible charity to continue doing what they do! It will also make every step of those 26.2 miles that bit easier!
Every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions. With your donation, CRY can reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) by working with cardiologists and family doctors to establish good practice and appropriate screening facilities to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young. By supporting CRY you will help save young lives from these potentially fatal cardiac conditions. See how your support can help by visiting www.c-r-y.org.uk
