Story
In September 2022, I will climb Kilimanjaro in aid of Meningitis Research Foundation.
More people contract meningitis and septicaemia than you might expect. 16 –25 year olds fall within the second highest at risk group and freshers in particular are vulnerable to the disease. As I am a fresher myself I could not imagine how devastating losing a friend or sibling to the disease at this new, exciting time in our lives would be, especially as it can be prevented by a vaccination.
Additionally, meningitis remains the second biggest killer of children under five globally. This is more than AIDS, malaria, measles and tetanus combined. It kills more than 300,000 people every year and leaves hundreds of thousands more with life altering impairments.
All of the the money raised will go to the charity, but more importantly by fundraising we will also be raising awareness of the disease. The charity will eradicate meningitis by 2030, but this will only be possible with your donations, any donation will add up and help me reach the goal.
It is so important to be aware of the signs and symptoms as meningitis and septicaemia can strike quickly and can kill in just hours, with symptoms similar to an innocent common cold. Check out
