Story
I know....we're crazy....but hear us out...
I promise: this isn't a sob story. All I'll say is there's currently no cure for MS...I know this can unfortunately be said for too many conditions, but this one's close to my heart, so I'll tell you about it, tell you that Emma Field and I are going to run our socks off for it, and hopefully it will convince you to give us some money....or some support. What will we give you in return? Some embarassing pictures and videos of us trying to run five 10ks....and many, many thanks :D
There is a link to the MS society on this page, where you can read more if you're interested, but here's a quick summary of my understanding.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a condition that affects the nervous system: the protective layer that coats our nerves slowly degenerates in people with MS. This degeneration can show itself in any of the nerves in the body, which can result in an array of symptoms, from pins and needles to the inability to walk.
MS affects over 100,000 people in the UK, mainly people (most commonly women) between 20 and 40 years old. The most commonly experienced disease progression is to be first diagnosed with relapse/remit MS (RRMS): where you have periods of worsened symptoms followed by a recovery to normal state. This phase of the disease is well researched and has treatment options. RRMS can continue for any number of years, until the nerve damage worsens and the 'recovery' aspect of the condition disappears. This is secondary progressive MS, and for this there is no treatment.
Why raise money for MS? It’s an under-resourced charity and an under-researched condition…and it’s very close to our heart J
Any money goes to supporting people with MS, fighting for further support, and most importantly goes towards RESEARCH for a cure.
Why the Run for all 10K series? Why not…let’s face it, Emma and I aren’t keen bakers, we can’t raise money in a bake sale, but we can run, and this is something we can do to be proactive…and active!
What are we doing? We’re going to run five 10k’s across the north of England…that’s 30 miles in total! – more than a marathon
We’re also going to have a break from all the 10k-ing by doing the ‘Tough Mudder’ assault course challenge, somewhere in the middle of that…because…we can’t bake.
What can you do? We’ll send an email the week before each 10K, and provide you the week after with photos/videos of our efforts/struggles (I know you’ll all love that) and times…hopefully the times will get better each race but we’re not promising anything! AND, if you want, you can donate to the cause, however much or little you want, don’t worry I won’t be pestering or keeping check of who has or hasn’t donated (but Emma Field will!)
Ok, I’ll shut up now and thank you for the smallest to the largest donation and for reading this far J
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
