10 miles for 10 days for the 10th Anniversary, 21 March 2018
We support young people to follow their dreams and ambitions

Story

Since finding out about the John Thornton Young Achiever’s
Foundation, whilst taking part in the Air Cadet Junior Leaders Course and finding out what amazing work they do- and also realising it was such a local charity to me- I have been inspired to support the JTYAF as much as I can. I have been involved with a number of different fundraisers from organising a quiz night to Christmas carolling and cake sales to running a half marathon.

But, with this year being the 10th anniversary of the charity being
set up, I wanted to find a new challenge and go the extra mile, as it were.
With it being the 10th anniversary I decided that I would run 10
miles, but as I’ve done a half marathon I needed something to top that, and so I have given myself the challenge of running 10 miles every day for 10 consecutive days, which will be very hard work but every step will be worth it to support young people one step further in reaching their dreams.

Then came deciding on when to do this. As I am now an Adult
Volunteer on the Air Cadet Junior Leaders Course (one of the three organisation John left money for due to the important part it played in his life) and as the anniversary of his tragic death falls this year during the Junior Leaders Test Phase I felt it would be a poignant tribute to start the 10 days on the 21st March ending on the 30th March, the day he was sadly killed.

I hope that doing this challenge will raise enough money to
help at least one young person to achieve their ambitions and also inspire even more people to support such a worthwhile charity in such an important year. From the unimaginable tragedy, something so wonderful has blossomed so to be able to play even a small part in improving the future for so many ambitious young people means a lot.
