Story
In 2008 my son Ryan was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at just 16 months old, Ryan was rushed into hospital with sickness and breathing problems, after arriving at the hospital they carried out a series of tests and discovered he was diabetic, he was then transferred to Intensive Care where he stayed for 4 days, QA Hospital saved his life, Ryan will now have Diabetes for life unless a cure is found, this is very rare for a child of his age.
Ryan’s diabetes is difficult to control at such a young age, his bloods are up and down all the time leading to Hypos (where his bloods go to low and he could end up in a coma) or too high which if was left untreated he just wouldn't survive, his life depends on insulin, it’s very important to maintain his blood sugars throughout his life to avoid problems later in life e.g. – amputation of limbs, blindness etc., Ryan incurs at least 4 injections a day every day and also blood sugar testing at least 4 times a day every day.
We are very lucky to have a fantastic Diabetes Team on our doorstep who Ryan visits every 3 months and who I can get support from 24 hours a day 7 days a week. I therefore feel I need to give something back to the hospital so this year we are holding a fundrasing evening in June and i'm also running The Great South Run on 30th October 2011.
Please if can sponser me, even if its just a pound, it all adds up and every little helps
